WORD ON FIRE'S MUSICA DOMESTICA
When was the last time you sang with others in your living room?
For generations, music-making in the home was a normal, even essential part of life. Families gathered around pianos, firesides, and dinner tables to sing, passing on culture and faith through shared song. But in the age of streaming and passive listening, this deeply human practice has largely disappeared—and something vital has been lost.
Musica Domestica is an invitation to recover it.
Created by musician Andrew Goldstein and artist David Clayton, this two-volume series offers a practical and beautiful path for restoring a culture of song in the home. Designed especially for beginners—parents, families, and community leaders—it provides step-by-step guidance, rich reflections, and a curated repertoire of sacred and secular music, all supported by accompanying audio and video resources.
Volume I, Chants, Hymns, and Folk Songs, gathers the essential melodies that have formed Catholic life across centuries—music meant to be sung in seasons of celebration, prayer, and daily life. Volume II, Psalms and Canticles, leads families into the Church’s great tradition of sung prayer through the Liturgy of the Hours, sanctifying the day.
Together, these volumes form a unified vision: a home where music is not outsourced but where worship and leisure, tradition and creativity, all find their voice in song.

COMING SOON: MEANING OF MUSIC FILM SERIES
The Vigil Project – a Catholic ensemble that creates music for the journey of faith – brings you Meaning of Music, an eight-episode documentary film series aimed at discovering the gift of music in the life of faith. In this film project, we unpack music in its many forms and moments by bringing to the same table for the first time ever the voices of musicians, clergy, scholars, speakers, and more. Music is a gift from God that can be an incredible gateway to the divine, but in recent decades, the Catholic church has forgotten its inheritance of music. In this first-ever cinema-quality documentary exploring the meaning of music, perhaps it is time we remember.
PARTNER PROJECTS
The Vigil Project is humbled to partner with organizations around the globe to develop resources to help Catholics pray with music. Highlights of this work include:
The Vigil Project has an ongoing partnership with Divine Renovation, co-leading workshops for parishes in the United States as well as helping contribute to the music sections of their publications on parish renewal and the Sunday experience.
In partnership with The Word Among Us, The Vigil Project curates a selection of music by Catholic artists to feature for daily readers and online visitors. Through this collaboration, we built a custom application to feature playlists for each season, including a broad scope of music from chant and hymnody to Catholic singer-songerwriters.
Through two unique release collaborations, The Vigil Project has composed music to accompany The Hagios Study books. The most recent, "Meditations on the Our Father", was released by OSV Books in early 2026.
