WHY MUSIC?

From the beginning, music has played a central role in the Church and in Christian prayer. From Liturgy, to prayerful devotion, to all the moments of our Christian lives that are lived beyond the doors of the church building, music is a language that permeates the whole of our existence, raising our gaze to the Transcendent. The Church has long known this and historically patronized the arts for this reason.

But in recent decades, the standard of musical excellence within the Church has been diminished and the true value and understanding of music in our life of prayer forgotten.

We believe that if the Church is going to become a people of prayer once again, we must rediscover the meaning of music.

MEANING OF MUSIC

The goal of this eight-episode documentary film series is to discover the gift of music in the life of faith.

We hope to cast a holistic vision of what Catholic music is in its many moments and forms. God has given us this gift of song as a way to be more closely united with Him and each other, but the dialogue around music in the Church has all too often become a divisive one instead of one that unifies the Body of Christ. Our hope is that those who watch this film emerge with a renewed understanding of music in all its variety and the meaning it holds for growing in depths of prayer.
